Bring together a group of 40 talented professionals, ignite their passions and charge them with a single goal. Combined, the results are powerful. So powerful, that in less than 24 hours this department can raise a couple million dollars. But look beyond the walls of BWH, and you will realize this is a staff who doesn’t just take their job seriously, they take it to heart.
The Development Department has a unique perspective on giving back. Throughout the day they are busy plan-ning events, developing publications and soliciting funds to help build the hospital’s financial foundation. But, they are also busy “practicing what they preach,” said Chris Mosher, director, Development. “It goes without saying that supporting others and helping to underwrite community programs really hits home among our staff,” added Mosher.
Last year, the Development Department was the only department at BWH to boast a one hundred percent participation rate in the United Way/Tobin School Fund. When it came to raising this money, no phone calls had to be made. No events were planned or mailings sent. This time, the staff of BWH Development looked within themselves.
“Working in the fundraising business, we know how important philanthropy is to the success of non-profit organizations,” said Carmen Tordiglione, a Development officer who headed up her department’s efforts last year.
The Development Department took a strong team approach to raising funds for the United Way/ Tobin School Fund. Mem-bers of the department share a few tips on how to inspire fellow colleagues and other departments to give back:
The United Way/Tobin School Fund officially kicked off on Wednesday when United Way representatives and Tobin School families joined BWH campaign leaders for a special opening celebration. Many BWH employees joined the reception, enjoying cake and refreshments and learning how their contributions were changing lives.
Donations, which can be made through a one time contribution or payroll deduction, will continue to be accepted until November 2. Pledge cards can be turned into one of several hospital drop-off boxes or returned through interoffice mail. For more information on how to contribute, contact Marlene Freeley at ext. 2-8501. Look for more details on the campaign’s progress in future issues of BWH Bulletin.
